The Vehicle
This was something we had a lot of discussion about. I lie — we didn't! There is only one vehicle suited for such a venture. It's the car that, for over 60 years, has opened up new places around our planet. It's the vehicle which has driven through South American jungles, across ice and snow in Russian Siberia and which was for many Africans the first car they had ever seen. It is the automobile of legends, and a true member of our trip. It's the Land Rover Defender.
Here is how Richard Hammond, from Top Gear, describes it:
"It has taken pregnant mothers through snowstorms to hospital. Carried rescuers up remote mountains, and supported the livelihood of millions of families. It has crossed deserts to deliver food to starving people. Explored inaccessible territories to help map the world, and helped preserve the rarest of animals from extinction. Land Rovers only do important things."
