After a full evening of sauna, we got up early (again!), then caught tram to Central station, ferry back out to NDSM. Then did the final packed up of the sauna and left Amsterdam. An excellent evening, that netted a couple of extra tanks of fuel, moving the Landy and sauna to at least Denmark. Peter had decided to join the journey (at least until Bremen). It was nice to have someone in the ... more

A full sauna

With the last day of LeWeb being quite, I had a chance to write up my tips on driving in Paris. You should read it if only for the truly unique car I managed to snap a photo of. I made pretty good time from Belgium to Amsterdam, and the GPS guided me to the area where the sauna meet-up was planned for.  Driving up, it was not so inspiring as the whole area looks rather run down (it is a former ... more

Back on the road

The last day of LeWeb was very quite at the sauna, I think most of the attendees had partied pretty hard the night before  But Kalle from Fluid and Juha from Netprofile poped by for a morning sauna. Once again, the sauna helps the Finns get started for the day. A day of Sauna

So once again the decision to Couch surf pays off. The sauna has been burning through the supplied wood rather qucikly, and we had been emailing with some contacts in Amsterdam to see if we could get a reasonable spot to do a sauna evening with them on the route back. But this means we would need some more wood. Luckily my host for the evening knew someone who could supply the required "Du bois... more

First day of LeWeb

So, the first day is over. The day started out with the discovery that the other rear mudguard was lose. I could not get the nut un-done, so time for a quick bodge using some string. Then, the GPS decided that the best route to the site was via a long cobbled road. Cobbles and hard land suspension do not mix, as you can see from this video. Once the sauna was all setup, I checked ... more

Sauna is in it's new home for the next three days

So Nokia maps suggested route was via some rather small country roads, which made it a bit fun to get to the LEWeb site. And as I had picked a spot on the map, the GPS did not quite know how to get me there, so I missed the entrance, so I got to bounce around the area, until, by semi random chance I was approaching the enterance again, and managed to get in this time.Amazing amount of activity stil... more

Finally in France!

So after another full day of motorway driving (and horrible German Traffic jams), I finally arrived in France. As we are still on a negative balance for the trip, I had reached out on couch surfing to see if someone would accommodate me. One really nice nice chap, Bertrand agreed. And even better, he made the special effort to point out Chantilly Castle, so we could get a good photo... more

So when do we get to hear about startups?

Mike's TS thoughts by ymb

One challenge with this supper limited budget expedition is that the first couple of days, I have no real opportunity to stop and meet startups, just eat the km's until LeWeb, where it will be wall to wall coverage of startups. So, on with the travelogue. The day started off reasonably well, as I was not throwing my guts up and managed to enjoy the breakfast, and even got to upload a vide... more

A day of Ups and Downs

(This actually posted by Mike Bradshaw, but he is currently behind a slow Internet connection on the ferry, so posting it for him) And so it starts. It was a beautiful winter morning when I set out to check the Landy and make sure she was already to go. We checked the fluids and re-installed the barrier between the front and rear of the Landy (useful as a headrestraint for any middle row passenger... more
