More a-like than different.

Recently I was invited to take part in a Seedcamp event in Tallinn as a mentor, and as Kristoffer pointed out, we have not done an expedition in a while. Having done both a number of Startup Sauna Warmup days, a number of people have asked me what are the differences. Strangely, the days are more alike than different. The basic structure of the day is similar: * start with a short tal... more

The Travelling Salesman Goes Seedcamp!

Travelling Salesman by Kristoffer

Translate

It's about time that we did something together. Now we are. The Travelling Salesman entourage (me and Mike) are reporting directly from Estonian capital Tallinn, where Seedcamp's Nordic/Baltic presence is focused this year. Indeed a surprising number of their portfolio companies have originated from here, giving birth to the famous #estoniamafia. However companies are coming from all over. In addi... more

The animals make a business plan

So after a long evening of sauna, and a couple of drinks (I think the party went until there was no more alcohol to buy, at which point it seems to have moved to the clubs in Riga). This meant it was quite slow getting the guys to start moving in the morning. We had a couple of reasons for getting started, the first, the sauna was parked where we might get clamped again, and second we neede... more

TCBaltics and the opening of Tech Hub Riga

Mike's TS thoughts by ymb

Translate

So the actual day of TCBaltics could be described as a pretty standard startup type conference/event - sponsor talks, couple of panels and some lunch, along with WiFi that did not work. What made it different , was the location. During the Baltic Tour in the summer we had stayed at Hotel Albert when we visted Riga, but the view changes completely during the day. Luckily the supper nice folk... more

Once again to Riga

So, once again I attached the giant wooden sail to the back of the Landy, and set off on another journey. This time I would have some traveling companions, so an easier run (in theory!). First stop was at the Hammerkit office to collect the new limited edition t-shirts, find me if you think you can convince me you deserve one (pass phrase is #RepeatThis! Then on to Aalto Venture Garag... more

Did we learn nothing from the last trip?

Mike's TS thoughts by ymb

Translate

After returning from the LeWeb trip I received an email from Tech Crunch Baltics (which is also the launch party of the Tech Hub Riga). The Palo Sauna folks were once again willing to rent us their sauna, and with the ever supportive chaps at Startup Sauna saying they could put some money to start the ball rolling on this, we are once again using the TS Landy to tow a giant wooden sail through... more

The Last day of the expedition

Mike's TS thoughts by ymb

Translate

So I slacked off after all the hard work of the previous 12 days on the road, this final days entry is a few days late . After reaching home around eight pm on the Wednesday, we briefly met up with the Palo Sauna Ry guys, who wanted to check over their baby, and see that everything was alright. Seems so, apart from the fact that it was obiously *very* dirty. The next morening was another hor... more

A final day of motorways

Mike's TS thoughts by ymb

Translate

After a couple fo beers in the rather pretty town Norrtälje, and then back to the hotel for a final nights sleep on the road, we got up at too-early o'clock, to make it to the ferry terminal. Turns out, that we were so early that the check in had not even opened, but only by about 10 minutes. Once opened it became clear that this is a route used mainly by lorries, as there was us and one other ... more

A boring motorway day turns interesting at the end

Mike's TS thoughts by ymb

Translate

At the start of today, I thought I would be really struggling to find something to write about, as a day of driving 650kms+ of motroway, is not the most exciting of things (buying fuel, or food at motorway service stops is not exactly novel material). But at the second fuel stop of the day, while cleaning the windows and mirrors and checking tyre pressures, we spotted another Landy towing a tra... more
